What began as a simple call to vote for one young man became an unforgettable night of unity for UAMSA. In just a few hours, medical students came together, mobilised across schools, shared endlessly, and fought passionately for a common goal. Although Ekundayo didn’t win the ₦1 million grant, his vision achieved something greater: he brought UAMSA together and rekindled the spirit of love, unity, and belonging. ❤️🔥

No, it wasn't a political event or academic event, it is what I would call a random event that happens once in a life time, when we can say “I am the first in my bloodline to experience this”.

It started as a normal evening, I had gone to worship and got back home around 7:30pm… I settled down to doomscroll as I ate the plate of sweet jollof rice I had prepared earlier during the day.

At exactly 8pm, we started writing history. A message was sent to the group chat, saying “Vote Ekundayo” with this photo attached to it.

(It was drafted as an article, so you can't view the photo on WhatsApp)

It was either he wins or he wins… Micheal Ekundayo is the guy who makes the best parfait on campus, one capable of taking you to heaven and back. And that night, winning the grant of One million Naira will even ensure that he makes better parfait for our consumption. 🌚 Of course, we love him but we love the parfait more. 🥹🥹

We had only about 4 hours to go, so we all started… “Who has the contact of the Director of Information SUG?” Send the flier to her let her share to her fan base… “Every Local Officer must share this to the respective groups that they manage”, “Let every medical students share to medical students in other schools” and yes, the flier got to Bauchi, Kwara, Minna, Nasarawa, Anambra and beyond.

Our groupchat was on fire. The pressure was on every one of us.

At about 9pm we were leading but we had this one girl closing in on us, yes I said “us”… This was not about Ekundayo again, it's about the whole of UAMSA and we were not going to back down.

We were 40 votes ahead…

But we didn't relent. Again! We started sharing to our individual secondary alumni groups, we must bring the bag home. 🔥🔥🔥🔥 At this point, almost every media community and TV in the University of Abuja has carried the flier and we were just praying that everyone who came across it would vote for our dear Ekundayo.

All hands were on deck. 💯📌

At 10pm, we got a report… (She was leading)

Nooooo! We couldn't let it happen, then we intensified, Infact we tried reaching Peller, Carter efe and the President of Nigeria but we just couldn't get through to them, so we continued to share and vote as much as we can, even our parents weren't excluded.

But Maadie’s votes were moving mad (pun intended), counting multiple votes in seconds and we wondered, is this normal anymore? We couldn't even explain the sporadic increment of her votes but of course we forged on…

At 30 minutes to the end of voting I slept off… 😴😴😴 and then I woke up to this

“Maadie won the competition”.

I haven't experienced this kind of heart break in a long while,

All our effort,

Every click of the link,

And we still didn't make it. 🥲

But we made something else, we made history, for us it felt like a revival in our souls, UAMSA became one in less than 24 hours just because of the vision of one young man named *“Ē-KÚN-DĀ-YÒ”*.

That night, UAMSA’s love burned again. ❤️🔥

This is the story of the evening a young man brought all the Medical Students in University of Abuja together.
