Who we are?

The University of Abuja Medical Students Association (UAMSA) is the official body representing all medical students at the University of Abuja. Established to foster unity, excellence, and service among future healthcare professionals, UAMSA is dedicated to the holistic development of its members, both academically and personally.

Our Mission

Guided by our motto, "Health, Service, and Excellence," UAMSA strives to promote the highest standards of medical education, advocacy, and community service. We are committed to shaping well-rounded doctors who are not only skilled in their craft but also compassionate leaders who understand the importance of giving back to society.

To be a leading medical student association recognized for our commitment to academic excellence, innovative healthcare solutions, and impactful community service. We aim to inspire and empower the next generation of healthcare professionals to make a meaningful difference in Nigeria and beyond.

Our Activities

UAMSA organizes a wide range of activities throughout the academic year, including academic tutorials, health outreach programs, professional development workshops, social events, and. Health Week to round up each administrative year. These initiatives are designed to enrich the educational experience, enhance practical skills, and foster a sense of community among medical students.

President

Abdulbasit Opeyemii Yusuf
Medicine and Surgery - Level 600

Abdulbasit Opeyemi Yusuf is a medical student, student leader, sports enthusiast, financial analyst, and emerging young professional passionate about leadership, service, innovation, and community development. He is a final year medical student at the University of Abuja, where he has distinguished himself through active leadership and service to the student community. His leadership journey includes serving as a three-time Director of Sports of the Student Union Government (SUG), where he contributed significantly to the development and revitalization of sports activities within the university. A passionate basketball player and sports advocate, Abdulbasit has also participated in and promoted football, athletics, table tennis, and other sporting activities. Through his leadership, he has championed greater student participation in sports, supported the development of sporting facilities, and initiated and coordinated major sporting programmes. Beyond sports, Abdulbasit has demonstrated a strong commitment to academic and professional development, with interests spanning medicine, research, finance, artificial intelligence, and entrepreneurship. He is also involved in research initiatives through the Capital Medics Research Society, with an interest in contributing to impactful medical research and improving healthcare outcomes. In 2026, Abdulbasit was elected as the 10th Executive President of the University of Abuja Medical Students’ Association (UAMSA). Under his Transformative Legacy Administration, he seeks to promote purposeful leadership, student welfare, academic excellence, innovation, research, partnerships, and a stronger sense of community among medical students. His leadership philosophy is centered on purposeful service, integrity, inclusiveness, and creating sustainable impact. He believes that leadership is not merely about occupying a position, but about using every opportunity to make meaningful contributions to the lives of others. Opeyemi continues to combine his passion for medicine, leadership, sports, research, finance, and technology in pursuit of a career defined by service, excellence, innovation, and positive transformation.

Chioma Mary Dimson
Medicine and Surgery - Level 300

Dimson Chisom Mary is a 300-level Medical Student at the University of Abuja, passionate about leadership, student welfare, entrepreneurship, and public speaking. She believes in leadership that listens, advocates, and takes meaningful action. As the Director of Welfare A, she is committed to strengthening student welfare, fostering a supportive community, and ensuring that every student feels seen, heard, and represented. Through her leadership and public-speaking skills, she hopes to inspire others, amplify student voices, and create meaningful change. Beyond medicine, Chisom is passionate about catering and event planning, reflecting her creativity, service-oriented nature, and entrepreneurial spirit.

Kauthar Oyiza Abdulrazaq

A 500level medical student at the university of Abuja who is passionate about advocacy, health policy and advancing education surrounding health. She has served in several notable organizations and positions.From serving as the immediate past Director of welfare at the university of Abuja Medical Students Association under the innovative legacy tenure ,serving as the Public relations officer for the Antimicrobial resistance club university of Abuja, the current project coordinator for the Girls in pink( a cancer advocacy NGO) to serving as the current Vice president of the university of Abuja Medical Students Association. Her list of accomplishments under each office is extensive and impactful .

A singer and keyboardist, Joseph is also passionate about fitness, fashion, poetry, technology, cybersecurity, and Web3.
